Drug Induced Sleep Endoscopy (DISE)

Drug Induced Sleep Endoscopy (DISE)

DISE is a procedure performed in OSA patients that are CPAP intolerant and are considering alternative treatment options such as upper airways surgery. During this procedure, the goal is to try to replicate natural sleep by infusing sedatives to the patient. This allows the surgeon to perform a detail examination of the upper airway using a flexible rhino-laryngoscope to determine the location, degree, and pattern of airway collapse for each individual patient. This procedure can also be used as a method to determine the optimal level of CPAP pressure that needs to be applied to maintain the upper airway patent during sleep.
